FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETIES - INTRODUCTION

Joining a family history society in your local area or in areas where your ancestors lived can reap valuable dividends, not least in meeting members with a shared interest.

Even if you do not join a family history society in an area of ancestral interest to you, it is still worth visiting their websites since many societies list the publications, CD-ROMs and microfiche that they offer for sale. Some of these publications, particularly those focussing on a specific local topic, can only be obtained from the society concerned.

For those of you wishing to trace your Welsh ancestors, it is worth checking out the web site for the Association of Family History Societies of Wales. This site contains a useful guide to its member societies within Wales with guidance on which societies cover which areas.
